Gibson Island is a gated island community located at the end of the Pasadena Peninsula on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay. The island is connected to the mainland by a causeway and bordered by the Magothy River on the north, south and west sides and Chesapeake Bay to the east. The causeway is the only vehicular access route to the island and is exposed to the direct impact of storm wave attack on Chesapeake Bay from the north, east, and south. The existing stone protection in front of the bulkhead at Gibson Island was too low and too small to provide adequate storm protection. Bayland Consultants and Designers, Inc. was contracted to design a heavy armor stone revetment to protect the causeway. Shoreline Design began work on the revetment in March 2024 and work was completed in August 2024. Approximately 15,000 tons of heavy armor stone weighing up to 4,000 lbs were delivered to the site by barge and placed along the shoreline to construct over 2,100 LF of stone revetment. The work was completed by barge with little to no interruption to the residents and daily commerce on the island.
